Starkville is located on the eastern side of the state a little in the northern half.  The two major highways that run through Starkville are: Highway 25 which, comes up from the south out of Jackson Mississippi; and Highway 82 which runs east and west coming out of Tuscaloosa, AL to the east and from Greenville, MS to the west.  The general location of Starkville and the major highways entering it can be viewed on the Southern Billiards web site Map Page.  However, a “Highway Loop” has just recently been completed and the major highways no longer run right through town, nor do maps reflect the new loop.  So the purpose of these instructions is to get you from the “Loop” to the pool room.

 

1. Regardless of whether you come in on Highway 25 or 82 you will end up on the “Loop”. 

 

2. Watch for the Highway 389 exit.  The exit will be marked “Downtown Starkville” and will also include the Hospital “blue H” indicator sign.  Take the Highway 389 (Downtown Starkville) exit and follow the signs toward Downtown Starkville, you will be going south on Highway 389. 

 

3. At the first four way intersection with a traffic light (some of us call them “red lights”), which is where M.L. King Drive crosses Highway 389, take a right onto M.L. King Drive. 

 

4. Go to the next traffic light on M.L. King Drive and take a left onto D.L. Conners Drive. 

 

5. Go through one traffic light which is when you cross Main Street and Southern Billiards will be about a half a block down on your left.   It has a green and white stripped awning out front.

 

If this seems a little confusing that you turn onto D.L. Conners Drive and pass in front of Southern Billiards, it is because the name of the street changes from D.L. Conners Drive to South Washington Street when you cross Main Street.

 

Some additional details.

 

Coming up from Jackson, MS or that area you would take Highway 25 North to Starkville

 

Coming up from Meriden, MS or that area you would take Highway 45 North, then Alternate Highway 45 North to Highway 82, and take Highway 82 West to Starkville.

 

Coming from Tuscaloosa or that area you would take Highway 82 West to Starkville.

 

Coming from Greenville, MS or that area you would take Highway 82 East to Starkville.

 

Coming from Memphis or that area you would take Highway 78 to Tupelo, then Highway 45 and then Alternate Highway 45 to Highway 82, and take Highway 82 West to Starkville.  (You can come down Interstate 55 South to Winona and then take Highway 82 East to Starkville but, it is a little farther.)
